Toddle In Cirriculum

Preschool Cirriculum

Intent

In the preschool room we aim to support the children in becoming school ready. We focus on health and self-care and personal, social and emotional development to ensure when the children leave for school, they have the confidence to make new friends and explore their new environment, whilst being able to tend to their own toileting and basic hygiene needs.

Those children with any additional needs including SEND, are supported appropriately allowing them to be successful.

Implementation

In the Preschool room staff with provide lots of opportunities for the children to practise their self-care skills, such as encouraging them to wash hands and change clothing independently. Staff will plan activities, taking into consideration each child’s assessments ad individual interests, allowing the children to interact with their peers building new relationships. Staff will model kind behaviour and encourage the children to be respectful, caring and loving towards each other. We will respect the child’s own thoughts and views and allow them to lead during play. Staff will attend termly room meetings where they will look at the children’s progress as a whole and individually and plan next steps to continue the children’s development.

Impact

We hope the children will move on to primary school with the confidence to explore their new surrounding and understand they are respected, and their opinion is valued. The children will have the basic skills needed to be independent in self-care and being able to communicate their own needs. The children will have the basic foundations they need to continue their learning journey.

SEND children will continue to receive support in line with the SEND code of practice, and have an in depth handover to their new school teacher, with an extended transition period if needed.
